Product Description

Product Description:A convex lens is a lens with a thicker central portion. Convex lenses are divided into biconvex, plano-convex, and concave-convex (or positive meniscus) forms. The thin convex lens has a converging effect, so it is also called a condensing lens.A transparent body with spherical surfaces on both sides or a spherical surface on one side and a plane on the other side, and the middle part is thinner, called a concave lens. There are three types of bi-concave, plano-concave and convex-concave lenses.

The principle of convex lens:
The parallel light is parallel to the axis (the line connecting the centers of the two spherical surfaces of the convex lens is called the main optical axis of the lens) into the convex lens. After the light is refracted twice on both sides of the lens, it is concentrated at a point on the axis, this point It is called the focal point of the convex lens. The convex lens has a focal point on both sides of the mirror. For example, when it is a thin lens, the distance between the two focal points and the center of the lens is approximately equal. The focal length of a convex lens is the distance from the focal point to the center of the lens. The smaller the spherical radius of the convex lens, the shorter the focal length. Convex lenses can be used for magnifying glasses, glasses for presbyopia and hyperopia, lenses for microscopes, telescopes, etc. The larger the focal length, the more convex the surface of the convex mirror, and the better the light-gathering function.

Concave lens principle:
The line connecting the centers of curvature of the two sides is called the main axis, and the point in the center is called the optical center. Light rays passing through the optical center are not refracted no matter where they come from. The light beam parallel to the main axis is refracted on the concave lens and then diverges in all directions. The extension line opposite to the divergent direction will all be at a point on the same side as the light source, and the refracted light will be emitted from the virtual focus. There is one on each side of the lens. Concave lenses are also called diverging lenses. The focal length of a concave lens is the distance from the focal point to the center of the lens. The larger the spherical curvature radius of the lens, the longer the focal length. If it is a thin lens, the focal lengths on both sides are equal.

The difference between convex and concave lenses:
1) The structure is different:
A convex lens is composed of a transparent mirror body that is ground into a spherical surface on both sides; a concave mirror is composed of a mirror body that is concave on one side and opaque on the other.

2) Different effects on light:
The convex lens mainly condenses the light; the concave lens mainly disperses the light.

3) Imaging is different:
Convex lenses can form upright enlarged virtual images, inverted enlarged real images, inverted large real images, and inverted inverted real images; concave lenses can only form upright reduced virtual images.

4) Different uses:
Convex lenses are used for hyperopia glasses, convex lenses can be used for magnifying glasses, glasses worn by people with presbyopia and hyperopia, lenses for cameras, movie projectors, slide projectors, microscopes, and telescopes; concave lenses are used for myopia glasses.
