General Introduction:
The polarizer is an optical filter in which the transmittance of light is directly related to its polarization state. Generally, linearly polarized light in one direction can pass through, while light perpendicular to it cannot: it is absorbed or reflected in other directions.
It is also possible to make devices through which only circularly polarized light in a particular direction can pass, generally by combining one or more quarter-wave plates with linear polarizers.
A polarizer does not convert incident light with arbitrary polarization into the desired polarization direction. It can only eliminate unwanted polarized light.

Main Applying Fields:

1) Polarized sunglasses and camera filters suppress the horizontal reflection of sunlight, which is usually partially polarized.
2) The polarizer in the resonator causes the laser to radiate linearly polarized light. High polarization extinction ratios are not usually required; A simple Brewster dish will suffice.
3) If the laser beam itself is linearly polarized, but not highly polarized, the beam can be directed at a polarizer with a high polarization extinction ratio to improve its polarization (and keep the
polarization direction stable).
4) Combining a wave plate with a polarizer can be used as a variable optical attenuator: rotating the wave plate in the direction of its polarization changes the transmittance of the polarizer
accordingly.
5) Faraday isolators usually consist of two polarizers and a Faraday rotator.
6) Two polarized laser beams can be combined into a single beam by polarization at the polarizer (see polarization combination). Coherent polarization beam combination is a power scaling technique.
7) The interferometer usually contains a polarization beam splitter.
